On
a more serious note I would like to take a moment and address a very alarming
epidemic in today's children. While this is probably not news to anyone
let me share a couple of statistics courtesy of the CDC:
·
- Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
- The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period.
- In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.
It
is very important to ensure our little one(s) receive the proper nutrition that
is vital to their growth and development. The habits they develop now will
impact their long-term choices in the future. In the Shapels learning
center we offer a “Recipes” page where you will find some tasty and healthy
recipes that connect to the Shapels curriculum. To check out some of these
tasty recipes head over to: http://www.shapels.com/downloads/CookingShapeswiththeSHAPELS.pdf
Be
sure to check back often, because we will continue to add new recipes.
